Yeppoon to Tannum Sands, Tannum Sands to 1770 - This is where it all begins !! We had 26 skis and progressed down the coast for 5 days.
The first long, long day...... it started out well, we all lined up on the beach, and Sea Dog Dave gave us the start.
Green team, ever the show offs, did a huge flyby (which was to be the first of many). The ride took us past Yeppoon and along some of the most beautiful waters we had seen. Sheltered by the reef we made good time and learned to group together and work in teams. Some people (we won't mention that they got the Dick Head award for the day) strayed from the main path and were headed off to Vanauatu. We were joined by the Coast guard from all different towns along the way, These blokes were to prove a great comfort when the going got rough. Rumour has it that some of them were known to have an ale with the troops from time to time. We did our first fuel stop with Red team arriving first and hanging around to get in the way of the rest of us. This was to prove a habit with them, blue and green teams always picking up the stragglers and helping them along. The excuse they gave us was that Sam Heyes wouldnt let Hammer go and kept trying to convince him to sell his Yamaha's and get a real jet-ski, we dont really know how true this was but there are photo's.. hmmmm. Picture postcard style and then deteriorated at lunch time with high winds........ and so it went on. First time around noone had any idea what to expect - we all had a ball ! We had rough days and nights and parties. We met the kids and started a new chapter in our lives. What we didn't expect was how tired we got, how much fun we would have and how we would bond together. The video that Channel 7 made tells some of the story but to know it, you have to be there. The trek masseurs were well patronised and worth every penny ! The sponsor motels were brilliant, the food fantastic and .......well, you really have to try it ! An to top it all off we raised a heap of money for the kids. |
